The Van Life Project
A defining point in my journey as an illustrator and brand designer, you might even say this is where it all started. The Van Life illustrations emerged from a deep-seated wanderlust, inspired by the nomadic individuals who bravely trade traditional careers for freedom on the open road. Observing these intrepid souls from my office became a source of creative fuel and tranquility during challenging times. Their journeys instigated a series of illustrations depicting campers, vans, and overland vehicles, serving as a tribute to those authentically living life on their terms and thus paving a path for my own creative growth.
The Dent in the Details
Each vehicle in the collection tells a unique story, capturing the essence of adventure. Details like that hubcap you lost five hours into your road trip or that dent you hooked backing out of a campsite in Arizona reflect the personal history of every traveler. This narrative approach emphasizes that in the world of mobile living, no detail is insignificant. As I expand my work to encompass anything on wheels, I continue to cultivate my artistic journey toward crafting my own narrative, one illustration at a time.
Community Engagement
A couple hundred Volkswagen commissions deep, I began noting all the bits and pieces I would integrate into my own mobile living space. I started attending van life gatherings and collaborating with brands like Caffewerks, Yescapa and Overland Coffee Co, further fueling my ambitions to hit the road.
I consistently gravitate toward themes of exploration and travel in many aspects of my life and this project is no exception. I’ve fostered invaluable connections within the Van Life community and inherited a wealth of knowledge and understanding about what it means to live and travel sustainably.
